About Me

Teaching moms to breastfeed anywhere, anytimeJust who is Breastfeeding Anywhere?

Well, hello! I’m glad you came to visit me and my little blog!

My story isn’t too fascinating but I feel is the same as most moms out there so I feel I’m in good company. I am a 30 something mother of 2 and a wife to my dear hubby who’s 5 years younger (but women live longer so it should work out just fine in the end). My beautiful daughter is on the final half of her 2nd year and my son was born in early January.

When I was on maternity leave with my daughter, I asked a friend who had her son a month earlier to go for a coffee since I was getting serious cabin fever. It actually took a little coaxing to get her to go and she was very specific in wanting to go to Ikea. For coffee? Not my first choice but hey, there is shopping involved, so why not? As we sat and relaxed, her son started getting squirmy right away and she excused herself to nurse him. I should tell you that our Ikea has 2 nursing locations, one being in the restaurant. She must have gotten up 5 to 7 times during our coffee to feed him. I insisted that she stay and nurse him at the table and that it didn’t make me uncomfortable but since there were people around, she was the one that was uncomfortable.

The whole situation bothered me for days and I thought well, good job to Ikea for having such a place for her to feel comfortable enough to go with her baby. This is where the idea to start this site came from.

I began by compiling a list of nursing rooms in Canada and the United States and it took off from there (now I have rooms from all over the world!). You’ll find that most breastfeeding websites have a very small section about breastfeeding in public but it’s a subject that needs just as much attention as mastering the football hold. The fear of breastfeeding in public is one of the major reasons why moms choose to end breastfeeding much earlier than they should because they feel they have no life since their baby is attached to them constantly. This is not true and you’ll find helpful information on this site to keep you on your breastfeeding journey for as long as you and your baby would like.

The whole subject of breastfeeding in public is still a controversial one to some but one that I hope I can put a little footprint on to nudge it in the right direction.

Thanks for visiting me and please feel free to leave a footprint of your own and either visit one of my nursing rooms or let me know of one you’ve experienced and help yourself to some tips on how to breastfeed or pump in public.

While breastfeeding may not seem the right choice for every parent, it is the best choice for every baby.~Amy Spangler
